HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Athletics announced Tuesday its vision for a transformational renovation of Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, launching the public fundraising phase of an initiative designed to preserve the tradition of one of college baseball's most distinctive venues while positioning the home of Golden Eagle Baseball for the future.
The initiative, "Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow," outlines a comprehensive vision for the future of Pete Taylor Park that includes significant enhancements to the fan experience, premium seating and hospitality, baseball operations and ballpark amenities.
The announcement also marks the beginning of a fundraising effort to help bring the proposed improvements to life. Southern Miss Athletics will engage alumni, fans, and donors through philanthropic giving, naming opportunities and other investment opportunities tied to the project.
"Pete Taylor Park represents so much of what makes Southern Miss Baseball special," said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain. "The history, the atmosphere and, most importantly, our fans have created an environment unlike any other. This project allows us to honor those traditions while making a significant investment in what comes next for our program."
Originally constructed in 1984, Pete Taylor Park has continued to evolve alongside the growth and national success of Southern Miss Baseball. The proposed renovation builds upon that history while maintaining the atmosphere and traditions that have defined gamedays at The Pete for generations.
Proposed enhancements to Pete Taylor Park include:
The project is designed to strengthen the intimate atmosphere that has long defined Pete Taylor Park while creating additional opportunities for fans to experience Southern Miss Baseball. Improved sightlines, expanded social spaces, enhanced premium areas and upgraded amenities will complement the traditions that have helped establish The Pete as one of college baseball's most recognizable environments.
"The vision is not to change what makes The Pete special," McClain said. "It is to build around it. We want our longtime fans to walk into the renovated ballpark and still feel everything they love about Southern Miss Baseball, while the next generation of Golden Eagles experiences a facility built for the future."
Southern Miss Athletics is inviting Golden Eagle fans, alumni and friends to participate in the Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow fundraising effort. Those interested in supporting the project can visit the project website to make a gift, view renderings, or request additional information about becoming involved in the campaign.
In conjunction with the announcement, renewals for 2027 Southern Miss Baseball season tickets are now available. Current season ticket holders can renew their seats for the upcoming season and continue to be part of the gameday atmosphere at Pete Taylor Park.
