HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's cross country program was awarded its first team award for excellence in the classroom as one of the 2011 Division I All-Academic Cross Country Teams announced by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday.
Alabama had the highest GPA at 3.83 with the Golden Eagles next at 3.80. USM also had the highest GPA among the nine C-USA teams.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the squads must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Southern Miss was among 205 institutions to earn All-Academic status for the cross country seasons.
