Richardson and Druhan Collect SAAC Honors from Previous Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss men's basketball guard D'Angelo Richardson and volleyball libero Natalie Druhan were voted SAAC Players of the Week for their previous performances.
Richardson, a Vicksburg native and transfer from Holmes CC, was the hero in both the first exhibition (Nov. 3) and regular-season (Nov. 11) marathon. He scored nine of his 14 points on Friday in the extra sessions, most notably hitting a long baseline jumper with 33 seconds in the first and then racing coast-to-coast to the hoop before getting fouled with less than a second left. He calmly made both free-throws despite timeouts before each bucket.
Richardson gave his team the lead for good in the second OT when he nailed a three-pointer that put Southern Miss up 98-86 with 34 seconds left. The next trip down the floor, he drew another foul and hit both ensuing shots to seal the game.
He was one of seven Golden Eagles to score in double-figures.
Druhan had the best two-match stretch of her career in terms of digs, totaling 45. The regular season-ending win over FIU saw her tie a career-high of 45. She ends the season ranked fifth in C-USA with 4.29 digs per set. Both the Panthers and LA Tech hit just .121 over the week, helping Southern Miss to its sixth consecutive win and a No. 2 seed in the C-USA Tournament.
