Southern Miss Preps for Second Meeting with the Green Wave

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team welcomes Conference USA foe Tulane to Reed Green Coliseum for their second meeting of the 2011 season on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Southern Miss Preview
The Golden Eagles improved to 16-15 and 10-9 in conference play with a C-USA victory on Sunday. Southern Miss defeated Houston, 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17). The Golden Eagles attacked at a .308 clip against the Cougars. Southern Miss averaged 17.00 kills per set, 16.75 assists per set, 20.67 digs per set and 2.50 blocks per set. Senior Ashley Mell led the way with 25 kills (6.25 kps) to go with 21 digs (5.25 dps), while senior setter Kelsea Seymour totaled 58 assists (14.50 aps). Senior libero Lisa Knecht tallied 18 digs (4.50 dps). Senior Sarah Jane Bowden led the squad with eight total blocks (2.00 bps).

As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.75 kills per set on .188 attack percentage. The squad is averaging 18.76 digs and 2.18 blocks per set. Five players have posted 200 or more kills on the season. Six seniors will be honored in a post-match ceremony.

Scouting the Green Wave
Tulane is coming off a 3-0 loss against Rice on Sunday. The Green Wave sits at 9-21 overall and 4-15 in conference play. Tulane displays a balanced attack as seven players have recorded 100 or more kills on the season led by Cori Martone with 363. Nikki Osuna leads the team with 498 digs while Mel Mandelbaum and Lilly Wolfe combine for 9.47 digs per set in the 6-2 offense.

Southern Miss vs. Tulane
The Golden Eagles have already met the Green Wave this season falling 3-0 at Tulane. Southern Miss is now 8-47 all-time against the Green Wave in a series that dates back to 1981.
