Two Volleyball Eagles Named Players of the Week
Pursell and Bell earned C-USA Player of the Week honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- For the third time this season, a pair of Golden Eagle volleyball players were named Conference USA Players of the Week with Mary Pursell earning Defensive Player of the Week and Sarah Bell named Freshman of the Week for Nov. 9.
Pursell collected 52 digs as she posted back-to-back 20-dig performances. She picked up 28 against Marshall in just three sets then followed with 24 against Charlotte on Senior Day. She finished with a 6.50 per set average while adding 12 assists and had one ace. She set a new single-season record for most digs in a season. This is Pursell's third honor this season.
Bell led the Golden Eagles to a pair of C-USA victories over the weekend. Against Marshall, she recorded six kills on a .750 hitting clip while handing out 38 assists. She also had eight digs and one block. Against Charlotte, Bell finished with 51 assists and recorded seven kills on .333 hitting. She picked up eight digs and tallied three total blocks. For the week, she averaged 11.12 assists, 1.62 kills and 2.00 digs per set. This her second Freshman of the Week honor.
Southern Miss will close out the regular season at home on Nov. 12 against UTSA at 6 p.m.
