HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team welcomes Charlotte to Reed Green Coliseum for their second meeting of the 2015 season on Sunday. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m.
Five seniors will be recognized prior to the match.
The Golden Eagles improved to 22-9 and 9-5 in conference play with a 3-0 win over Marshall Friday night, clinching a berth in the Conference USA Tournament, Nov. 20-22, in San Antonio, Texas. Southern Miss recorded the fifth-most overall victories in the program history. The Golden Eagles earned a 3-2 victory on Oct. 1 against Charlotte.
Stephany Purdue leads the offensive attack with 3.95 kills per set while Kylie Grandy is next at 2.41 kills per set. Sarah Bell guides the offense with 9.91 assists per set and Mary Pursell paces the team defensively with 4.84 digs per set. Elise Ames adds 1.13 blocks per set.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.06 kills on a .191 hitting clip, 15.64 digs and 2.15 team blocks.
Charlotte is coming off a 3-2 victory over Middle Tennessee for an 8-16 record overall and 5-8 in league play. Sarah McDonald leads the 49ers with 3.11 kills per set while Abreia Epps and Semen Sen add 2.98 and 2.10 kills per set, respectively. Britney Leigh Held is averaging 9.55 assists per set and Shelby Green owns a team-best 4.07 digs per set.
As a team, the 49ers are averaging 12.12 kills on .206 hitting, 14.69 digs and 2.39 team blocks.
Southern Miss leads the overall series against Charlotte 11-9 in a series dating back to the 1991 season.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Thursday, Nov. 12 when they welcome UTSA to Reed Green Coliseum to close out the regular season. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
