HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team will conclude its 2016 home campaign Sunday afternoon when it hosts Rice at noon.
The team will honor seniors Chanel Joyce, Stephany Purdue and Makareta Rademakers prior to first serve. Joyce has absolutely had the best year of her career, currently ranking third on the team in kills. Her and Rademakers have split rotation duties this season, with Maka going between setter and DS roles to have her most playing time of her career.
Purdue is 10 kills away from breaking the all-time career-kills record at Southern Miss. She had a match-high 13 as the Golden Eagles swept UAB on Friday night.
Southern Miss (19-7, 8-3 C-USA) on Friday hit .317 as a team, its fourth time hitting above .300 in C-USA play this season. Sarah Bell was perfect on eight attacks as well as providing 35 assists in the three sets.
Rice (17-10, 9-3 C-USA) swept the Golden Eagles in the only regular-season matchup last season, but Southern Miss dropped the Owls 3-1 in the first round of C-USA Tournament play. Four Golden Eagles tallied double-digit kills in that comeback win, including Purdue with 14 and Kylie Grandy with 10.
The Owls most recently were swept at No. 21 WKU on Friday.
