Southern Miss outside hitter Ashley Mell was selected today as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., native averaged of 4.56 kills, 4.67 digs and 5.11 points per set as well as registering two double-doubles and 20-or-more kills in road wins at Memphis and UAB this past weekend.
She had a career-high 29 digs and landed 20 kills in a 3-1 victory at UAB Sunday. Mell started weekend play recording 20 kills, 13 digs and six blocks in a five-set win at Memphis Friday.
This marks the third time in Mell's career she has earned C-USA Player of the Week Honors. It is also the third time this season a Southern Miss player has garner recognition from C-USA as Kelsea Seymour earned back-to-back C-USA honors as Setter of the Week on October 18 and 25.
Tulsa's Jordan Clampitt and Jessica Adams swept the C-USA Setter of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Mell and the volleyball team will hit the road this weekend as they travel to UTEP on Friday and UCF on Sunday.
