IRVING, Texas -- Sophomore Sarah Bell picked up Conference USA Co-Setter of the Week honors for the second time on the year.
Bell entered the weekend leading C-USA in assists for league matches-only and was No. 12 nationally, then did more of the same with 85 assists over Southern Miss’ two wins. Her 50 against UNT marked the sixth time this year and 14th time in her young career she’s reached that plateau.
The three service aces against North Texas tied a personal-best and helped the Golden Eagles to their best showing in that category since 2006. She has also held a team-high .298 hitting percentage in her limited attack role. Bell now has eight double-doubles this year.
Bell is No. 13 nationally with 11.39 assists per set, just behind the person she has twice shared Co-Setter of the Week honors with, Jessica Lucas of WKU. Bell does however have sole possession of the top spot in C-USA with 12.18 assists per set in league play.
Southern Miss (18-7, 7-3 C-USA) plays its final two home matches Friday at 6 p.m. against UAB and Sunday at noon versus Rice, which will also feature Senior Day festivities beforehand.
