Southern Miss Volleyball Travels to Rice, North Texas
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team is back on the road traveling to Rice and North Texas on Oct. 29 and 30, respectively. The Golden Eagles face the Owls on Thursday at 6 p.m. and take on the Mean Green Friday at 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles improved to 21-7 overall with an 8-3 record in league play following a 3-0 sweep of UAB on Sunday, Oct. 25. So far in 2015, six Eagles have recorded 120 or more kills, including junior Stephany Purdue who leads the team with a 3.93 kills per set average. Freshman Kylie Grandy is not far behind with 2.35 kills per set. Freshman setter Sarah Bell has been the primary setter this season, averaging 9.81 assists per set. Senior libero Mary Pursell has a team-high 4.70 digs per set.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 12.99 kills, 15.39 digs and 2.19 team blocks.
Rice is 16-8 overall with a 6-4 record in Conference USA play. Leah Mikesky paces the Owls with a 3.65 kill per set average while Chelsey Harris is next at 3.07 kills per set. Madison McDaniel guides the offensive with 10.62 assists per set. Kimberly Vaio is averaging 3.82 digs per set while Portia Okafor is averaging 1.19 blocks per set.
As a team, Rice is averaging 14.10 kills, 15.81 digs and 2.12 team blocks.

The Golden Eagles are 4-11 all-time against the Owls in a series dating back to 1991. This is the first meeting between the two teams this season.
North Texas is 14-11 overall and 6-4 against C-USA opponents prior to the Southern Miss matchup. Carnae Dillard leads the Mean Green and C-USA with a 5.35 kill per set average. Four Mean Green players average over 2.00 digs per set, with Dillard lead the quartet at 2.94 digs per set. Amy Henard guides the office with 9.70 assists per set.
As a team, North Texas is averaging 13.36 kills, 14.23 digs and 1.97 team blocks.
