Volleyball Readies For A Pair of Home Matches
The Friday match has been designated as the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's volleyball team welcomes Conference USA Marshall to Reed Green Coliseum for their second meeting of the 2012 season on Friday, Oct. 26, with action is set to begin at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then take on East Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Friday match has been designated as the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match. Members of the Pink Ribbon Fund and Forrest General Hospital's Spirit Girls will be at the match. T-shirts will be sold for $10 each with all proceeds being donated to the Pink Ribbon Fund and be available for purchase at the match.
Southern Miss Preview
The Golden Eagles enter the contest with a 6-16 record overall and 2-8 in league play. USM is averaging 12.33 kills per set on .180 hitting to go with 14.35 digs per set and 1.89 team blocking. Halie Ecker leads the team with 3.27 kills per set followed by Jasmine Crowell at 2.98 kills per set. Crowell is also tops on the team in blocks at 0.89 blocks per set. Kristen Fleming guides the offense while averaging 10.22 assists per set while Elizabeth Rinaudo is averaging a team-best 4.30 digs per set.
Scouting the Herd
Marshall is coming off back-to-back 3-2 losses against UAB and Memphis last weekend. The Herd sits at 6-4 in conference play and an overall record of 16-8. As a team, Marshall is averaging 12.37 kills per set on .197 hitting. The Herd averages 15.92 digs, 1.60 team blocks and 1.37 aces per set. Laura Der and Katy Schad led the team offensively with 4.26 and 3.47 kills per set, respectively. Dorothy Rahal is the defensively leader with 4.49 digs per set while Sammie Bane guides the offense with a 10.56 assists per set average.
Southern Miss vs. Marshall
The Golden Eagles have already met the Herd this season recording a 3-2 loss at Marshall. Southern Miss is now 6-11 all-time against the Herd in a series that dates back to 2005.
Scouting the Pirates
East Carolina enters the weekend with a 1-20 record overall and will play UCF prior to the Southern Miss match on Sunday. As a team, the Pirates are averaging 10.03 kills per set on .112 hitting. ECU averages 14.41 digs and 2.06 team blocks per set. Nicole Willis leads the team offensively with 3.59 kills per set while Zarah Cecich guides the team with 7.14 assists per set. Shelby Beasley is the defensively leader with 4.25 digs per set.
Southern Miss vs. East Carolina
Southern Miss and East Carolina have played 20 times in a series dating back to the 2001 season. This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools as the Golden Eagles lead the overall series 13-7.
Following the East Carolina match, Southern Miss will travel to Rice (Nov. 2) and Houston (Nov. 4) in its final road matches of the season before returning home to close out the regular season against Memphis and UAB.
