Volleyball Eagles Prepare for Second Meeting with the Owls
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles hit the road for their second meeting with Florida Atlantic of the 2015 season on Thursday, Oct. 21. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Southern Miss Preview
The Golden Eagles improved to 19-6 and 6-2 in conference play with a pair of five-set wins last weekend. Southern Miss defeated FIU 3-2 and followed with a 3-2 victory against Louisiana Tech.
Stephany Purdue leads the team offensively with 3.93 kills per set with Kylie Grandy next at 2.36 kills per set. Grandy leads the team with 42 service aces. Sarah Bell guides the offense with 9.70 assists per set while Mary Pursell paces the team defensively with 4.54 digs per set.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 12.94 kills on .196 hitting, 1.17 service aces, 14.87 digs and 2.19 team blocks.
Scouting the Owls
Florida Atlantic is coming off 3-0 victories against UAB and Middle Tennessee on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18. The Owls sit at 14-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Maja Ristic leads the team offensively with 3.84 kills per set while Brittney Brown, Kristin Rankovic and Gabriela Martin average over 2.00 kills per set each. Ivone Martinez and Genesis Viera guide the offense with 7.12 and 5.35 assists per set. Ravee Golston paces the team with 4.12 digs per set.
As a team, FAU is averaging 14.69 kills, 1.39 aces, 16.94 digs and 2.42 team blocks.
Southern Miss vs. Florida Atlantic
The Golden Eagles have already met the Owls this season falling 3-1 at home. Southern Miss is now 3-2 all-time against the Owls in a series that dates back to 2000.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 when they welcome UTEP and UAB, respectively, to Reed Green Coliseum.
