HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Conference USA matches with trips to Tulane and Louisiana Tech this weekend. The Golden Eagles face the Green Wave on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., followed by a meeting with the Techsters on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.

The Golden Eagles improved to 11-9 and 2-3 in conference play last Sunday with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) victory against UTEP.

Southern Miss is averaging 13.23 kills per set, 12.59 assists per set, 1.04 aces per set, 14.70 digs per set and 1.70 blocks per set on the year. Sophomore Quinci Hayward leads the team with a 4.03 kills per set average with freshman Stephany Purdue, junior Jasmine Crowell and sophomore Elise Ames next at 2.44, 2.38 and 2.30 kills per set, respectively. Junior setter Kristen Fleming directs the Golden Eagles' offense with 10.75 assists per set. Sophomore Mary Pursell averages 4.86 digs per set.

Tulane currently sits at 4-1 in conference play with an 18-2 overall record. The Green Wave has won eight of their last nine matches, including the last five. Tulane topped East Carolina in their last match, 3-1 on Sunday. A trio of players pace Tulane offensively, Tea Juric, Cori Martone and Annie Shurtz are averaging over 3.00 kills per set. Mel Mandelbaum guides the Green Wave with 11.42 assists per set and Grace Weaver averages 4.64 digs per set.

Southern Miss and Tulane have met 57 times prior to Friday's match with Tulane leading the series 47-10. The series date back to the 1981 season.

Louisiana Tech currently owns a 1-4 in league play and 7-13 overall. The Techsters lost at East Carolina last Friday, 3-2. Rebecca Redgen and Xzache Mathis average 3.06 and 3.41 kills per set, respectively. Alejandra Aviles leads the team with 3.75 digs per set while Maria Coelho paces the team with 8.65 assists per set.

This is the 12th meeting between the two schools and Southern Miss is 8-3 all-time vs. the Techsters.

The Golden Eagles remain on the road on Friday, Oct. 25 for 7 p.m. match with Middle Tennessee. Southern Miss also travels to Tulsa on Sunday, Oct. 27. The squads meet at 1 p.m.
