Volleyball Hits the Road For a Pair of C-USA Matches
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team hits the road for weekend series against Conference USA foes Florida Atlantic and FIU. First serve is set for 6 p.m., against FAU and 1 p.m. All times are central.
Southern Miss (15-8, 4-2) is coming off a 2-0 weekend with a wins over North Texas and Marshall.
A pair of Golden Eagles are averaging 3.00 kills per set led by sophomore Stephany Purdue with 268 kills followed closely by junior Quinci Hayward (263). Senior Jasmine Crowell is adding (222) 2.78 kills per set. Junior Mary Pursell and senior Alex Pfefferle patrol the back row as the duo are averaging 4.27 and 2.55 digs respectively. Kristen Fleming is guiding the offense with an 8.86 assist per set average. As a team, USM is averaging 14.16 kills on .224 hitting, 14.90 digs and 2.00 team blocks per set.

Volleyball Eagles Rally for 3-1 Victory Over FAU to Close Out Regular Season
The Southern Miss volleyball team rallied from a set down to defeat Florida Atlantic, 3-1 (15-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-23), to close out the regular season.
This is just the third meeting between the two schools in a series where the team first played in 2000. Southern Miss leads the overall series 2-0.
FIU enters the weekend with a 6-13 record overall and 3-3 in league play. Lucia Castro paces the Panthers offensively with 207 (3.04 kps) to go with a team-best 196 digs. Anabela Sataric guides the offense with 7.90 assists per set. The team is averaging 11.2 kills, 15.2 digs and 2.21 blocks per set.
This will be the fourth time for the two teams to play. FIU leads the series began in 1979, 3-0.
Following the weekend, Southern Miss returns home to host UAB (10/24) and Louisiana Tech (10/26).
