Volleyball Hits the Road for Matches at UAB and Memphis
Golden Eagles look to snap three-match skid.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team gets ready for a pair of road matches this weekend when The Golden Eagles travel to UAB on Oct. 12 and to Memphis on Oct. 13.
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 6-12 record and 2-4 in Conference USA play after falling to Tulsa and SMU last weekend.
Jasmine Crowell continues to pace the Golden Eagles offensively, averaging 3.13 kills per set while Halie Ecker is next at 3.10 kills per set. Kristen Fleming guides the offense after averaging 10.28 assists per set. Elizabeth Rinaudo leads the team in digs with a 4.10 per set average while Crowell leads the team in total blocks with 62. As a team, USM is averaging 12.37 kills, 14.30 digs and 1.96 team blocks per set.
Southern Miss has several players ranking in the top 20 among Conference USA leaders in statistical categories. Middle Blocker Jasmine Crowell ranks among the leaders in hitting percentage, kills, blocks and points. Freshman Lydia Bonner and senior Halie Ecker rank among the leaders in kills and points while senior Elizabeth Rinaudo ranks in the top six in digs per set. Sophomore Kristen Fleming ranks among the leaders in assists per set.
A Look at UAB
UAB comes into the match with a 10-11 record, having won its last three matches. The Blazers won a 3-3 C-USA record. Six Blazers have accumulated over 100 kills, led by Sam Serley with 206 for a 2.61 per set average. Alison Woods and Becca Howard share setting duties for UAB as the duo have a combined 11.23 assists per set average. Rachel Fairbanks also leads her team in digs with a 4.67 per set average. As a team, UAB is averaging 12.30 kills on .205 hitting, 15.63 digs and 2.41 team blocks per set.
Series record against The Blazers
This is the 40th meeting between USM and UAB in a series dating back to 1981. Southern Miss leads the overall series, 20-19.
A Look at Memphis
Memphis is 6-14 overall and 1-5 in league play. As a team, Memphis is hitting .183 with 12.53 kills per set, 1.32 aces per set, 15.35 digs per set and 1.86 team blocks per set. The Tigers use a balanced offensive attack as four players have recorded over 100 kills. Altrese Hawkins leads the group, averaging 3.95 kills per set. Closely behind is Marija Jovanovic at 3.01 kps. Jaden Louie runs the offense and is averaging 9.03 assists per set, while Aleksandra Petronijevic paces the team with 4.32 digs per set.
Series record Against the Tigers
This will be the 41st between Southern Miss and Memphis in a series dating back to 1982. Memphis leads the overall series with USM 22-18.
The Golden Eagles will play UCF in back-to-back matches, traveling to UCF on Oct. 19, then return home to host the Knights on Oct. 21.
