Bell Earns Second C-USA Weekly Honor of her Career
Helped Southern Miss to .324 hitting percentage Sunday, highest in C-USA match since 2013
IRVING, Texas -- Southern Miss continued its weekly volleyball honor tour on Monday with the announcement that sophomore Sarah Bell earned Co-Setter of the Week honors.
Bell on Thursday moved into ninth all-time at Southern Miss in career assists after previously passing the 2,000-milestone. She produced 90 assists over the weekend in seven sets versus No. 25 WKU and in a sweep at UTEP, exceeding a season-average that has consistently been top-two in the league and in the top-20 nationally. The 42 versus UTEP marked a season-high in terms of three-set matches. Bell also added four kills, 18 digs and a service ace over the week.
Bell's stellar play also helped Chanel Joyce to consecutive career-high 14-kill matches. The second one saw Joyce have no attack errors and a .700 hitting percentage, the highest by a Golden Eagle since September 2014 and third-best by any C-USA performer in 2016.
Her first career honor came Oct. 19, 2015 as C-USA Freshman of the Week as Southern Miss defeated Louisiana Tech and FIU. Bell eventually earned All-Freshman team honors from the league as well.
Catherine Repsher has earned three Freshman of the Week accolades this year while Stephany Purdue picked up an Offensive POTW honor as well.
The Golden Eagles (14-6, 3-2 C-USA) look to build off their Sunday sweep at UTEP with a Friday 6 p.m. home match versus Louisiana Tech.
