A Pair of Volleyball Eagles Named Players of the Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- For the second time this season, a pair of Golden Eagle volleyball players were named Conference USA Players of the Week with Stephany Purdue earning Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Mary Pursell earning Defensive Player of the Week for October 5.
Purdue tallied 65 kills on a .225 hitting clip to average 4.64 kills per set. She recorded double-digit kills in each match including a pair of matches with 20 or more kills. Purdue had one double-double with 25 kills and 10 digs against South Alabama. She had four service aces against UAB. For the week, she totaled 24 digs and seven total blocks. On her first kill against UAB, she reached the 1,000-kill milestone.
Pursell collected 68 digs during the week to average 4.86 digs per set. She recorded 20 or more digs in each of the matches. She also tallied two aces and had 19 assists during the week. She had a .975 reception percentage. Pursell moved into the No. 3 spot on the all-time digs list and needs just two to move into the No. 2 slot.
