Volleyball Readies for Weekend against Tulsa and SMU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team gets ready for a pair of home matches this weekend when Tulsa and SMU visit Reed Green Coliseum on Oct. 5 and Oct. 7, respectively.

The Golden Eagles meet the Golden Hurricane at 7 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum on Friday followed by a matchup with the Mustangs on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Golden Eagle Preview
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 6-10 record and 2-2 in Conference USA play after a series split last weekend against East Carolina and Marshall.

Jasmine Crowell paces the Golden Eagles offensively, averaging 3.28 kills per set with Halie Ecker at 3.16 and Lydia Bonner at 3.19. Kristen Fleming guides the offense after averaging 10.55 assists per set. Elizabeth Rinaudo leads the team in digs with a 4.02 per set average. As a team, USM is averaging 12.75 kills, 14.20 digs and 1.93 team blocks per set.

Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Tulsa comes into the match with a 12-7 record, having won its last five matches. The Golden Hurricane lead C-USA with a 5-0 record. Tyler Henderson leads the team and league in kills with 355 for a 5.22 per set average. Jordan and Bailey Clampitt share setting duties for Tulsa as the duo have a combined 13.41 assists per set average. Jessica Adams also leads her team and the league in digs with a 5.06 per set average. As a team, Tulsa is averaging 14.49 kills on .204 hitting, 17.61 digs and 1.54 team blocks per set.

The Series: Southern Miss vs. Tulsa
This is the 10th meeting between the two teams and Tulsa leads the all-time series against Southern Miss 7-2.

Scouting the Mustangs
SMU is 4-13 overall and 1-4 in league play. As a team, SMU is hitting .172 with 12.30 kills per set, 1.33 aces per set, 14.40 digs per set and 2.03 team blocks per set. The Mustang use a balanced offensive attack as three players have recorded over 100 kills. Caroline Young leads the group, averaging 3.03 kills per set. Closely behind are Courtney Manning and Maddie Lozano at 2.08 kps and 1.81 kps, respectively. Olivia Bailey runs the offense and is averaging 8.63 assists per set, while Susan Lewis paces the team with 3.40 digs per set.

This is the ninth meeting between Southern Miss and SMU with SMU leading the series 5-3.
