HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team opens the home portion of its Conference USA schedule with a match against North Texas on Friday in the annual 'Dig Pink' match at 7 p.m.
The first 250 fans will receive a pink t-shirt. All donations will go to pink ribbon fund. There will be a special presentation following the match with the total of donations raised.
All breast cancer survivors or patients will be honored on the court during intermission and will receive free admission. Please RSVP to Leigh Ann Holland at 601-266-6629 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Pink Ribbon Fund will be there with information about their organization. There will be ribbons for everyone and the team will be wearing pink jerseys. In addition, the men's and women's golf teams will also be recognized during the match.
Golden Eagle Preview
Southern Miss (9-7) is coming off a 3-2 loss to UAB in the conference opener. Four Golden Eagles tallied double figure kills led by Elise Ames with 17 while Quinci Hayward and Lydia Bonner had 13 and Stephany Purdue added 11 kills. Mary Pursell picked up 30 digs. Hayward leads the team offensively, averaging 4.04 kills per set on .246 hitting while Purdue, Ames and Jasmine Crowell are next with 2.45, 2.41 and 2.32 kills per set, respectively. Ames leads the team in blocks with a 0.88 per set average. Kristen Fleming guides the offense with a 10.71 per set average while averaging 2.12 digs. Mary Pursell paces the defensive with 4.84 digs per set as four other Golden Eagles are averaging over 2.00 digs per set. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.43 kills on .231 hitting, 14.84 digs per set and 1.80 blocks per set.

Southern Miss leads the series with North Texas 3-1, dating back to 1991.
The Golden Eagles will host Rice on Sunday at 1 p.m. The team will welcome Girl Scouts and Campers Reunion. The Girl Scouts will receive $3.00 tickets while the campers receive free admission with their campers t-shirt. A free clinic will take place after the match.
