Volleyball Eagles Ready for Charlotte
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team returns home to host Charlotte in a Conference USA matchup on Friday at 7 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 12-8 overall record and 1-2 in C-USA after a 3-1 loss at Middle Tennessee last week. Quinci Hayward and Jasmine Crowell led Southern Miss with 11 kills apiece.
Stephany Purdue and Hayward lead the team in kills with 3.13 and 3.15 kills per set, respectively. Crowell and Lydia Bonner are next with 2.65 and 2.15 kills. Mary Pursell paces the team with 4.03 digs per set while Kristen Fleming guides the offense with 7.91 assists per set.
Volleyball Cruises Past Charlotte, 3-0
Behind 10 kills on .500 hitting by sophomore middle blocker Elise Ames, Southern Miss volleyball team swept Charlotte (25-18, 25-12, 25-14) Friday in Conference USA action.
Charlotte enters the match with a 12-7 overall record and 1-1 in league play. Six player have recorded 100 or more kills on the season. The Niners are led by Irem Asci with a 3.13 per set kill average. Savannah Gaster, Abreia Epps, Semen Sen, Sarah Adams and Claire Kreuz all average over 2.00 kills per set. Shelby Green paces the defense with 4.69 digs per set while Britney Leigh Held guides the offense with 10.18 assists per set.
As a team, Charlotte is averaging 13.20 kills, 1.59 aces, 16.05 digs and 1.75 blocks per set.
Southern Miss leads the overall series with Charlotte 9-8, dating back to 991.
The Golden Eagles will return home to host a pair of C-USA matches next weekend when North Texas and Marshall pay a visit on Friday (10/10) and Sunday (10/12), respectively.
