Golden Eagle Flyby with Chanel Joyce
In this week's flyby segment, we sat down with junior outside hitter Chanel Joyce of the Southern Miss Volleyball team. Joyce is one of three juniors on the squad. She is currently averaging 2.00 kills per set on a .222 hitting clip. She tied a career-high with 11 kills against UNO (9/15).
Q: Describe your hometown.
CJ: I am from the best place in the U.S. which is San Francisco, Calif. In San Fran, we have every different kind of food you can think as well as a very diverse population of people. There is always something to do there such as go to one of the numerous beaches or just go site seeing since the scenery is so beautiful.
Q: What was your first thought as you walked onto campus for the first time?
CJ: My first thought when I walked onto campus for the first time was why is it so hot and humid outside.
Q: How has Southern Miss impacted your life since you started here?
CJ: I don't think I have ever sweated so much in my life.
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
CJ: In high school, my P.E. coach forced me to try out. She said that since I was tall and I jumped high that I should play volleyball.
Q: Do you have any fun plans outside of your season? ie. vacation?
CJ: I went to Tonga with my best friends. The reason we went to Tonga was because my best friends aunt was becoming queen.
Q: If you were writing an autobiography, how would you end it?
CJ: Chanel adopted all the orphans in Haiti and brought them to America.
