Golden Eagle Volleyball Steps Back Into Conference Play with a Match at Charlotte
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team will hit the road for a Conference USA match, when the Golden Eagles travel to Charlotte, Oct. 1. First serve is set for 5 p.m. central time.
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 14-5 overall record and 1-1 in C-USA play and is coming off a thrilling 3-2 win over South Alabama on Tuesday night. Stephany Purdue registered a match-high 25 kills to go with 10 digs in recording a double-double. Mary Pursell and Shelby Russell paced the team with 23 and 18 digs, respectively.
Golden Eagle Volleyball Comes Up Short, Falls to Charlotte 3-2 in Season Finale
In spite of a career-effort by Stephany Purdue with 25 kills, Southern Miss volleyball team came up short in falling to Charlotte in five sets (20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23, 15-9) in the season finale Sunday afternoon.
Charlotte is 5-9 overall after a 3-0 loss to Winthrop. The 49ers are 2-1 in league play. Sarah McDonald is the top kill-leader with 3.18 kills per set. Britney Leigh Held guides the offense with 10.40 assists per set while Shelby Green is tops on the team in digs with 4.34 digs per set. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 12.92 kills on a .224 hitting clip, 1.70 aces, 15.00 digs and 2.28 team blocks per set.
This is the 20th meeting between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 10-9, dating back to the 1991 season.
Following the Charlotte match, Southern Miss remains on the road for a match at UAB on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
