Volleyball's Mary Pursell Named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week
This is Pursell's first career honor
IRVING, Texas - Southern Miss junior Mary Pursell earned her first Conference USA Player of the Week honor when the Kenner, La., native was named Defensive Player of the Week announced by league office.
UTSA earned a pair of weekly awards as senior Dempsey Thornton and sophomore Jessica Waldrip received C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week honors, respectively.
Pursell collected double figure digs in all four matches during the week, finishing with 82 total digs for a 5.86 per set average. She joined the 30-dig club with a 33-dig performance against Southeastern Louisiana. In the Georgia Tech Invitational, Pursell finished with 49 digs (4.90 d/s) that included a 22-dig outing against Georgia. She also recorded a .992 reception percentage.
This is Pursell's first career C-USA Player of the Week honor.
