Golden Eagle Flyby with Elise Ames

In this week of the Golden Eagle Flyby, we took a few minutes to get to know senior middle blocker, Elise Ames. Ames is a sports management major from Wildwood, Mo. Throughout her career with the Golden Eagles, Ames has played in 94 matches and started in 87. She has recorded 605 kills in her career on a .323 hitting clip that is the best in school history. She ranks in the top 20 all-time in block solos, block assists and total blocks. She currently leads the team in blocks while ranking second in Conference USA.

Q: What brought you to Southern Miss?
EA: The family culture is what brought me to Southern Miss. Southern Miss feels like home and my team is my family.

Q: What was your first thought as you walked onto campus for the first time?
EA: My first thought when I walked on campus was that this is where I am supposed to be for the next four years.

Q: Describe your hometown.
EA: My hometown is St. Louis, Missouri. It is the greatest city in America.

Q: What drives you as an athlete?
EA: The feeling of winning at the end of a match is what drives me. It is that feeling that you know you gave everything you had and ended with a victory.

Q: Who are the top three people you could have dinner with?
EA: Jesus, Blake Griffin, and Jeff Logan.

Q: If you could choose a super power, what would it be? Why?
EA: If I had to choose a super power, I would have to choose to fly. Being able to fly would make it to where I can travel the world.
