Volleyball Eagles Open Conference USA Play at Louisiana Tech
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team opens Conference USA play at Louisiana Tech on Monday with a 6 p.m. first serve.
Southern Miss (12-4) is coming off three-straight losses in the Tiger Invitational, playing a total of 14 sets. Stephany Purdue was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 3.79 kills and 3.07 digs per set. She recorded three aces. She posted two double-doubles.
Purdue leads the team offensively, averaging 4.20 kills per set and 2.51 digs. Kylie Grandy is next with 2.44 kills per set. She also leads the team in with 22 service aces. Sarah Bell guides the offense with 9.42 assists per set. Mary Pursell leads the team on defense with 4.31 digs per set. Elise Ames is the top blocker, averaging 1.25 blocks per set.
Volleyball Eagles Soar Past Louisiana Tech, 3-0
The Southern Miss volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-17) win over Louisiana Tech in Conference USA action Sunday afternoon improving to 18-9 overall and 7-3 in league play.
Louisiana Tech enters the contest with a 6-7 overall record. Marta Monne leads the team offensively with 3.07 kills per set on .231 hitting. Adria Morales and Brooke Short guide the team with 6.67 and 5.21 assists per set, respectively. Alejandra Aviles leads the team in digs with 4.43 per set.
As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 11.26 kills, 1.04 aces, 12.79 digs and 1.57 team blocks.
This is the 14th meeting between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the overall series 11-3, dating back to 1987. The Golden Eagles have won the last six meeting.
Following the Louisiana Tech match, Southern Miss returns home to host Florida Atlantic on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
