IRVING, Texas -- Southern Miss outside hitter Catherine Repsher continued her fast start to her career, taking home her second Freshman of the Week honor in the first month of the 2016-17 season.
Repsher helped lead Southern Miss to a 3-1 record last week, including a four-set win at Arkansas on its home floor. She produced a team-high 14 kills in four sets against No. 25 Kansas State, hitting .478 in the process. The 14 kills also tied a career-high (did so twice in the opening-weekend tournament versus McNeese and Tulane). Her 17 blocks on the week allowed her to take back the C-USA lead in total blocks.
Repsher, from Carl Junction, Mo., has been a major factor offensively and defensively to help Southern Miss to a top-three ranking in kills, hitting percentage and opponent hitting percentage in the league.
She first received the accolades on Aug. 29 after also making the All-Southern Miss Invitational team that weekend. Senior outside hitter Stephany Purdue was also named the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6. Last year's squad was represented on the weekly honor roll four times.
Southern Miss (11-4) begins Conference USA action on Friday night at North Texas (7 p.m.) before going south to UTSA for a Sunday 1 p.m. tilt.
