Jasmine Crowell and the Golden Eagles are set for the Rebel Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - he Southern Miss volleyball team travels to Oxford, Miss., set to play in its fourth tournament of the season at the Rebel Classic Sept. 20-21.

The Golden Eagles (9-3) will meet Chattanooga (0-12) at noon before playing host Ole Miss (7-3) at 7 p.m. USM will conclude play against Louisiana (8-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Southern Miss is coming off a 3-1 loss at Northwestern State on Tuesday. In that match, Quinci Hayward tallied a match-high 18 kills while Mary Pursell picked up a career-high 35 digs.

Hayward continues to pace the team offensively with 164 kills for 4.32 per set average. Stephany Purdue and Jasmine Crowell are next with 99 (2.61 k/s) and 98 (2.58 k/s). Kristen Fleming directs the offense as she is handing out 11.58 assists per set. Mary Pursell is averaging 5.11 digs per set and Elise Ames leads the team in blocks with 1.08 per set. As a team, the Golden Eagles average 13.97 kills on .247 hitting, 13.45 assists, 1.37 aces, 15.32 digs and 2.16 blocks per set.

Chattanooga is coming off a 3-1 loss to UAB on Tuesday night. Briana Reid and Kasey Talley led the way with nine kills each. Allie Davenport leads team offensively with 105 kills followed by Reid and Julimar Alvarado with 79 and 75 kills, respectively. Catherine Chason paces the defense with 164 digs while Anne Bachmann and Reid guide the offense with a combined 315 assists. Southern Miss owns a 1-0 record against Chattanooga.

Ole Miss is coming off a 3-2 loss to TCU in the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational. Ole Miss has a balanced offense with five players with 65 or more kills on the season. Ty Laporte leads the group with 2.58 kills per set while Kara Morgan and Marie-Pierre Bakim are next at 2.21 and 2.11 kills per set, respectively. Kristen Brashear leads the team in digs at 3.89 per set while Edie Aubrey guides the offense, averaging 8.38 assists per set. Ole Miss leads the series against Southern Miss, 24-3.

Louisiana is coming off a 2-1 weekend at Georgia Tournament last weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns are led offensively by Lavinia Tataran and Sara Mossakowski with 98 and 89 kills, respectively. Caitlyn Auxilien averages 4.17 digs per set while Andrea Hole is handing out 9.60 assists per set. The Ragin' Cajuns lead the series against Southern Miss, 21-10.

Following the Rebel Classic, the Golden Eagles will play their ninth match away from Reed Green Coliseum when Southern Miss opens Conference USA play at UAB on Sept. 27. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
