Golden Eagle Volleyball Plays at Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team heads to Southeastern Louisiana for its 11th-straight match on the road Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
Stephany Purdue and Quinci Hayward led the team in kills, averaging 3.09 and 3.07 kills per set, respectively. Purdue also leads the team in aces with 16. Crowell is next with a 2.55 kill per set average and leads the team in blocks at 1.09 b/s. Kristin Fleming and Makareta Rademakers combine for 12.2 assists per set. Mary Pursell and Alex Pfefferle lead the team in digs with 3.43 and 3.32 digs per set, respectively. As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 13.73 kills, 1.32 aces, 15.09 digs and 2.00 blocks.
Golden Eagle Volleyball Tops Southeastern Louisiana in Three
The Golden Eagle volleyball team captured a three-set sweep over visiting Southeastern Louisiana (25-14, 25-20, 25-21) Tuesday night.
Tiffany Thomas (2.56 kills per set) leads a group of Lady Lions offensively as Parrie Hartley (2.43 k/set), Rachael Bunn (.243 attack percentage) and Mikayla Shippy help guide the team offensively as well for the Lady Lions. Shippy is sixth in the Southland with an average of 9.03 assists per set and Bunn's attack percentage is tenth.
Bunn, who capped a strong weekend at the 13th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic by earning a spot on the All-Tournament team, is fifth in the conference with 1.04 blocks per set. Morgan Todd leads Southeastern in digs (4.72 per set), ranking fourth in the Southland.
Southern Miss leads the overall series against Southeastern Louisiana 30-22. The two teams met in Hattiesburg last season with the Golden Eagles taking a 3-0 win.
Southern Miss travels to its final in-season tournament, Sept. 19-20, when the Golden Eagles participate in the Georgia Tech Tournament. Southern Miss will play Alabama A&M on Friday at 3:30 p.m., and conclude Georgia at 9 a.m. and Georgia Tech at 6 p.m., before opening Conference USA play at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 22.
