Volleyball Eagles Ready For UNO

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team returns to Reed Green Coliseum for the first time since Sept. 1, when the Golden Eagles host UNO in a mid-week match at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15.

Southern Miss (11-1) is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Rebel Classic with a second-place finish. The Golden Eagles had their 10-match winning streak snapped with a loss to Ole Miss. Elise Ames and Kelsey Chambers were named to the all-tournament team for their respective performances.

Golden Eagle Volleyball Sweeps UNO 3-0
Junior Jasmine Crowell recorded 11 kills on .688 hitting in leading Southern Miss past New Orleans Tuesday night in three sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-11.

Stephany Purdue continues to the lead the Golden Eagles offensively, averaging 4.33 kills per set on a .288 hitting clip. Kylie Grandy is next with a 2.51 per set average. She also leads the team in aces with 19. Sarah Bell guide offense with 9.49 assists per set to go with 2.28 digs per set. Mary Pursell is the defensive leader on the back row, averaging 4.33 digs per set while Ames owns a 1.48 per set blocking average.

As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 13.00 kills on .225 hitting, 14.47 digs, 1.22 aces and 2.47 team blocks.

UNO enters the match with a 6-4 record, having won its last three matches. A quartet of Privateers have recorded 60 or more kills on the season, but five UNO players are averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Leading the group is Rondolyn Bryant with a 2.24 kill average followed closely by Dunn Blessing at 2.31, Cara Sander at 2.17, Kaitlyn Grice at 2.09 and Takierra Boughton at 2.04. Shaylene Reimer leads the defense with 3.00 digs per set while Celeste Ramirez guides the offense with a 7.23 assists per set average.

As a team, UNO is averaging 11.81 kills on .180 hitting, 12.54 digs, 2.05 aces and 1.54 team blocks.

UNO leads the all-time series between the two teams at 22-9, dating back to the 1979 season.
