Southern Miss Preps For Tuesday Matchup with Warhawks
Team has four consecutive sweeps in the all-time series
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team will make its second consecutive Tuesday road trip when it goes northeast Louisiana for a 6 p.m. contest at ULM.
The Golden Eagles (8-3) last weekend swept Lehigh and Northwestern State in the Crimson Tide Invitational, falling in five sets to Alabama in between those contests. Alexis Coombs and Kylie Grandy were named to the All-Tournament team.
The squad has seen major contributions from all classes. Senior Stephany Purdue is third in C-USA for kills and 10th in hitting percentage, while junior libero Natalie Druhan reached a few new career-highs in digs over the past week. Sophomore Kylie Grandy has produced a team-high 18 service aces (third in C-USA) alongside her four double-doubles.
Southern Miss also held the honor of having four players record double-figure kills (Grandy 16, Purdue 15, Coombs 11, Joyce 10) in Friday night's thriller against Alabama. The weekend also saw Southern Miss improve to 33-14 in tournament play in head coach Amanda Berkley's four years.
ULM (3-9) played in the Houston Invitational over the weekend, concluding play with a 3-2 loss to the host Cougars. It has a pair of attack threats in Hope Pawlik and Karena Caruthers, separated by just four kills on the year.
The Warhawks lead the all-time series 13-9, but Southern Miss has swept them in the last four meetings dating back to 1993 (the last three have come since 2009).
