HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team had a pair of Golden Eagles named Conference USA Player of the Week with Stephany Purdue earning Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Mary Pursell earning Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 8.
This is the first Player of the Week honors for both players.
Purdue tallied 94 kills for a 4.95 per set average while hitting .254 for the week. She recorded double digit kills in each match including a season-high 25 against Southeastern Louisiana (9/1). She also had a 23-kill performance against Alabama (9/5). Purdue posted three double-doubles during the week. She collected 49 digs for a 2.58 per set average. She record four aces and had nine total blocks while scoring 5.39 points per set. Purdue was named the MVP of the Bama Bash Tournament. This is Purdue's first career honor.
Pursell finished the week with 119 digs for a 6.26 per set average. She posted back-to-back 30-dig performances in the Bama Bash Tournament and just missed a 30-dig performance against Southeastern Louisiana (9/1) when she finished with 29 digs. She tallied 14 digs against College of Charleston and 12 against Northwestern State. She had two aces and finished with a .979 reception percentage. Pursell was named to the Bama Bash all-tournament team. This is Pursell's second career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
