IRVING, Texas -- Southern Miss senior outside hitter Stephany Purdue has earned Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance throughout the Golden Eagles' 4-0 stretch.
Purdue on Saturday was named the Tiger Classic MVP, going above and beyond her normal excellence to helped lead Southern Miss to a sweep of Virginia, UConn and LSU in the field. Her 27 kills in the finale against LSU were the most by a Golden Eagle since Quinci Hayward had 31 (tied school record) in 2013. Those 27 were also the most by any player in the league this year, and it was more impressive once added alongside her 16 digs. Her match against the Huskies saw her tally 15 kills and a season-high eight assists.
Purdue ranks fifth in hitting percentage (.399) as well as first in kills (4.44 per set) in C-USA, and the latter is No. 27 nationally. It is the second consecutive week since the season began that Southern Miss had someone earn a weekly award from the league (Catherine Repsher, Freshman of the Week). Purdue also earned Co-Offensive recognition on Sept. 8, 2015.
The Golden Eagles look to win their fifth straight when they play at South Alabama Tuesday at 6 p.m. Fans can watch for free via JagNationTV.
