Golden Eagle Flyby with Mary Pursell

Aug. 26, 2015

As the Golden Eagles Volleyball team begins their season, we were able to take a few minutes with senior Mary Pursell for another Southern Miss Golden Eagle Flyby. Pursell is a libero and defensive specialist for the Golden Eagles. Prior to this season, she has been tabbed as a member of the Preseason All-Conference USA team. She has played in 89 matches in her career at Southern Miss. Prior to pursuing her collegiate career, she played at St. Mary's Dominican High School in Kenner, La.

Q: What brought you to Southern Miss?
MP: The thing I really enjoyed about taking my visit to Southern Miss was the family atmosphere of the coaches and players on the team. Once I stepped foot on campus and met the team, I felt right at home.

Q: During your career as an athlete, do you consider one person as your mentor, maybe a coach?
MP: I do consider my former coach, Rachel Lindelow, as my mentor. Coach Lindelow was my high school and club coach. She also coached me for a year in college as the assistant coach here at Southern Miss.

Q: How has SOUTHERN MISS impacted your life since you started here?
MP: I have definitely learned a lot about myself being at Southern Miss. I have grown into a mature, young adult here. I have learned to live by myself without my family.

Q: What do you prefer the temperature in your room to be?
MP: My ideal temperature for my room would have to be 72 degrees.

Q: If you were writing an autobiography, how would you end it?
MP: I would end my autobiography by saying, I would die in my sleep, while lying on the beach.

Q: What was the last song that you listened to?
MP: The last song that I listened to was "I can't feel my face when I'm with you" by The Weekend.

Q: Describe yourself in four words.
MP: Ecclectic, Different, Fun, Loud
