Golden Eagle Flyby with Lydia Bonner
In this installment of Golden Eagle Flyby with the Lady Eagle Volleyball team, we sat down with senior outside hitter Lydia Bonner. In her three-year career as a Golden Eagle, Bonner has played in 88 matches and has 605 kills. During her junior campaign, she played in 30 matches and 100 sets while finishing with 224 kills.
Q: How has USM impacted your life since you started here?
LB: USM has impacted me so much. I have grown as a person and as a player. It has also allowed me to become a better person.
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
LB: I wanted to play a sport that did not require a lot of running. Volleyball was the sport that did not require me to run a lot.
Q: Biggest difference between High School and Collegiate athletics?
LB: The biggest difference between High School and Collegiate athletics is the fact that I have ended up having to run a lot anyways, lol.
Q: Prior to a match, do you have any superstitions or rituals?
LB: My biggest ritual is that I always listen to gospel music. I can not and would not do well if God does not give me strength to.
Q: Describe your hometown.
LB: I come from a huge city, Houston, Texas. I am certainly a city girl. My favorite pastime in the city is to go shopping.
Q: Where would you want to go on a vacation if money was no option?
LB: I would want to go to New Zealand and visit with one of my teammates, Maka, who is from there.
Q: Favorite teacher in grade school?
LB: My favorite teacher was Mrs. Bailey. She was the bomb! Can I still use that word?
Q: Funniest thing that has happened to you at a competition?
LB: Prior to a match, I accidentally threw the ball (that should have gone into the crowd) at my coaching staff on the bench. Super embarrassing!
