HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team will take some time out of its busy day during preseason practice to visit Camp Shelby and play volleyball with the troops.
The team travels to Camp Shelby and will take part in beach volleyball action against the troops that are stationed there.
The Golden Eagles have spent the last six days preparing for the 2013 season under interim head coach Amanda Berkley.
"Practices have been going really well," Berkley said. "We've had the four-hour days and the players seemed to be fresh and working hard throughout the whole practice."
Southern Miss is scheduled to open the 2013 season with its own Southern Miss Invitational, Aug. 30-31, in Reed Green Coliseum. Teams included are Jackson State, Stephen F. Austin and Troy.
The Golden Eagles will also hold their annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the coliseum. Prior to the scrimmage, the team will put on a free kids clinic at 1:30 for school age children kindergarten through eighth grade. Admission is free.
