Volleyball to Hold 2014 Annual Fan Day
Team to offer free clinic for all children ages 12 and under followed by Black and Gold Scrimmage
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle volleyball team will have its annual Fan Day on Saturday, Aug. 23 in Reed Green Coliseum beginning at 1 p.m.
A free clinic will take place for all children ages 12 and under. The clinic will run from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. as the children will learn from members of the Southern Miss Volleyball team. Registration will open at 1 p.m. and all fans are asked to enter via the North Entrance of Reed Green. Fans may fill out the attached registration form in advance or may fill one out on site the day of the clinic. Participants should bring tennis shoes and knee pads.
The annual Black and Gold Scrimmage will take place shortly after the conclusion of the clinic. There is no charge for admission.
Fans can get an early preview of the 2014 team with the Black and Gold scrimmage at 3:00 p.m., in Reed Green Coliseum. Admission is free to the public.

Southern Miss returns 13 letterwinners from last year's team that finished with a 17-14 record and 7-7 in league play. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish in a tie for fifth in the league standings for 2014. Heading the list is junior Quinci Hayward (6-5, outside hitter, New Orleans, La.) who was named to the preseason All-Conference team, seniors Jasmine Crowell (6-0, MB, Gulf Breeze, Fla.), Kristin Fleming (5-9, setter, Columbus, Ga.), junior Elise Ames (6-1, MB, Wildwood, Mo.) and sophomore Stephany Purdue (5-11, outside hitter, Mesa, Ariz.). Also returning is senior Alex Pfefferle (5-5, defensive specialist/Libero, New Orleans, La.), juniors Mary Purcell (5-6, Libero/defensive specialist, Kenner, La.), Lydia Bonner (6-0, outside hitter, Houston, Texas), Rachel Johnson (6-0, middle blocker, Round Rock, Texas) and senior Katie Steelman (5-11, OH, Panama City Beach, Fla.).
Other returning letterwinners include Shelby Russell (5-9, defensive specialist/Libero, Niceville, Fla.), sophomores Makareta Rademakers (5-8, setter, Christchurch, New Zealand) and Chanel Joyce (5-10, outside hitter, San Mateo, Calif.). Head Coach Amanda Berkley added two newcomers in freshmen Natalie Druhan (5-8, defensive specialist/Libero, Mobile, Ala.) and Kelsey Chambers (5-0, right side hitter, Rosharon, Texas).
Southern Miss opens the campaign with its annual Southern Miss Invitational Tournament, Aug. 29-30, that include teams Alabama A&M, Arkansas Pine Bluff and Nicholls State. Tournament play begins on Friday with Nicholls and Alabama A&M at 5 p.m., followed by the Golden Eagles against Arkansas Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's action begins at 10 a.m. with Nicholls against Arkansas Pine Bluff followed by Southern Miss and Alabama A&M 12:30 p.m., Alabama A&M and Arkansas at 3:30 p.m., and concludes with Southern Miss and Nicholls at 6 p.m.
