HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Assistant Coach Amanda Berkley has promoted to the head coaching position on an interim basis with the departure of Abbey Sutherland.

Berkley has served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons with Sutherland. She inherits a team that returns seven of its top eight players that accounted for 73 percent of offense to go with 56 percent of the digs and 88 percent of blocking.

Amanda Berkley will do an outstanding job as Interim Head Coach," Sutherland said. "She has my complete support and I know that the team is behind her one hundred percent."

Sutherland resigned her position to take the same position at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She just finished her third season as head volleyball coach at Southern Miss, but spent six seasons as an assistant for former coach Ricci Luyties.

The 2013 season kickoffs on Aug. 30-31 with the Southern Miss Invitational that include Troy, Stephen F. Austin, Jackson State and Southern Miss.
