HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team continues its spring training in preparation for the 2013 season.
According to Head Coach Abbey Sutherland, the Golden Eagles began work on individual skills while adding weight training three times per week.
"We use this time of the year to improve on individual skills, strength and conditioning," Sutherland said. "We find the individual sessions are more beneficial."
In addition to the individual workouts, the team has a full practice to work on game situations and drills to help build speed and endurance.
The team competes in several spring tournaments against regional competition, South Alabama, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and West Florida. The spring season concludes with the Golden Eagles' own spring tournament against Southeastern Louisiana on April 25. The Golden Eagles will also host their annual sand volleyball tournament on April 27.
Southern Miss opens the 2013 season at home, hosting its annul Southern Miss Invitational Tournament, Aug. 30-31.
