Volleyball Eagles Fall in Semifinals to UTSA
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Southern Miss volleyball team concluded the season, falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) to No. 2 seed UTSA in the Conference USA semifinals.
UTSA scored eight of the first 10 points in taking control in the opening set. After a timeout, the Roadrunners pushed the lead to 12-3 before Southern Miss used a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 13-7. UTSA finished strong in taking a 25-17 win.
The Roadrunners to the early lead. The Golden Eagles battled back to cut the lead to 8-6 after scoring three straight. The teams went back and forth before UTSA scored five of the next seven points to run the lead to 16-11. The Roadrunners closed out the set using a 9-4 run for the 25-16 win.
The teams came out battling to start the third set. With the scored at 5-5, UTSA ignited for five straight points for the 10-5 lead. After a timeout, the Roadrunners were not slowed as UTSA tacked on another five points to push the lead to 15-5. From there, UTSA cruised to a 25-16 win in moving into the finals of the C-USA Tournament.
Kasy Kiefer and Jordan Kotara led UTSA with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Annie Kunes had 16 digs while Amanda Gonzales finished with 33 assists and 14 digs. Kotara also had 13 digs.
