Golden Eagle Volleyball Takes 3-1 Win Over Southeastern Louisiana
Southern Miss improves to 10-4
HAMMOND, La. - The Southern Miss volleyball team got a 33-dig performance from Mary Pursell and had three players tally double figure kills in defeating Southeastern Louisiana in four sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19.
Southern Miss improved to 10-4 while Southeastern dropped to 2-9.
Southern Miss scored five of the first seven points in taking the early lead. With a 7-3 advantage, the Lady Lions battled back using a 5-1 run to tie the set at 8-8. The teams traded points for the next 10 points before the Golden Eagles managed to ease ahead 14-12. Following a Lady Lions timeout, Southern Miss scored the next four points for the 18-12 lead. The Black and Gold held on for the 25-19 win.
The teams battled for the first 23 points with the Golden Eagles taking a 13-10 lead. Following a Southeastern Louisiana timeout, Southern Miss scored four of the next six points in pushing the lead to 17-12. Southern Miss closed out the set using an 8-5 run for the 25-17 win.
Golden Eagles squandered four-point lead in the third set as Southeastern Louisiana battled back using a 7-1 run to end the set for a 27-25 win.
Southeastern took the early 6-2 lead before Southern Miss battled back to tie the set at 8-8. From there, the Golden Eagles added a pair of aces, two kills and a SLU attack error to take a 13-10 lead. Southern Miss pushed the lead to 20-13 before the Lady Lions cut the lead to 21-17 using a 4-1 run. The Golden Eagles closed out the set on a 4-2 run for the 25-19 win.
The Golden Eagles finished with 54 kills, four aces, 70 digs and 7.0 team blocks while SLU had 38 kills, two aces, 62 digs and 6.0 team blocks.
Parrie Hartley led the Lady Lions with 12 kills to go with 13 digs. Morgan Todd had 18 digs.
Southern Miss travels to Georgia Tech for its final in-season tournament, Sept. 19-20, when the Golden Eagles meet Alabama A&M on Friday and play Georgia and Georgia Tech on Saturday.
