Full Team Effort Leads to Golden Eagle Sweep
Team now focuses its attention on LSU Invitational Friday and Saturday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team began its 2016 Reed Green Coliseum tour with a 3-0 win over the Southern Jaguars on Tuesday night (25-9, 25-11, 25-13).
It was the Golden Eagles' fifth consecutive sweep of Southern since 1999.
Catherine Repsher's service ace made it a 4-0 margin in the first set. Southern got within 6-5 before Natalie Druhan served for the duration of Southern Miss' 11-0 run. Repsher and Chanel Joyce teamed up for a big rejection in the midst of it as well.
The Jaguars called timeout trailing 11-6 in the second set, but it was of little distraction to the Golden Eagles as they scored eight of the game's next 10 points. Kylie Grandy upped her team lead in kills with her seventh as well. She also provided a service ace in the third set that made it a 17-8 contest.
Southern Miss will enjoy a few days in town before following the same path as the Jaguar bus to Baton Rouge. The Golden Eagles will face off with Virginia at 12 p.m. and UConn at 5:30 p.m. as part of the LSU Invitational.
