HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- -
Southern Miss' Raquel Washington received her second All-American honor, as 86 schools placed athletes on the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-America Team, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced last week.
Washington, a native of Gulfport, Miss., recorded a time of 13.29 in the 100-meter hurdles and finished ninth in the finals at the Outdoor Championship. She recorded a time of 13.15 in the semifinals. She is a two-time Conference USA outdoor champion in the 100-meter hurdles. She is the first female outdoor track and field All-American at Southern Miss.
Eighty-six Division I schools are represented on the women's All-America team.
In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including relays, are accorded All-America status. In the individual (non-relay) events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
Washington also will compete at the Senior USA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., June 21-25.
