Golden Eagle track and field teams head into the final day of competition at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in seventh and ninth places, respectively.
Freshman Vincent Tanui scored the Golden Eagles' first points, when he finished second din the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:39.09. Leonard McLeggon finished fourth in the decathlon with 6,533 points, scoring five points for the Golden Eagles. Ricardo Page placed seventh in the shot with a throw of 51'0.75".
Senior Ashley Reyer fell just short of defending her heptathlon title, finishing second with 5,309 points and scoring eight points for the Lady Eagles. Hana Prudilova placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 140'7".
Senior Tanika Liburd successfully defended her long jump title with a jump of 21'3.50", placing first and earning the 10 points for the Lady Eagles.
Both teams will have the opportunity to improve on their standings. Frederick Baldwin advanced to the finals of the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.95, while Cornelius Duncan and Cordell Kinn advanced to the finals of the 400 meters with times of 46.09 and 47.39, respectively.
Marvin Pinnock ran a time of 1:52.82 in the 800 meters, advancing to the finals. Baldwin also advanced to the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.30. Duncan recorded the top time in the preliminaries in the 200 meters with a time of 21.08, advancing to the finals.
Several field event finals are scheduled for Saturday morning with the conclusion of the running events beginning at 6 p.m.
