Tanika Liburd pulls off double win in the 100 meters and long jump

CLINTON, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss men's and women's outdoor track and field teams captured the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational on Friday, with the men's team scoring 151 points and the women's team scoring 241 points.

The Lady Eagles placed five runners in the top six finishers in the 100 meters, led by Tanika Liburd running a time of 11.59, followed by Tori Wells with a time of 12.06, Karla Thurmond posted a time of 12.09, Ashley May ran 12.134 and Angel Weston ran 13.06.

Thurmond turned in a time of 24.56 in the 200 meters, followed closely by Wells with a time of 24.86, and Terria Wheeler recorded a time of 25.20.

Kirsten Richards placed third in the 400 meters, followed by Carmen Dennis, Wheeler and Jamaka Wall rounding out fourth, fifth and sixth place. Richards ran a time of 58.27, with Dennis posting a time of 48.77, Wheeler 58.94 and Wall running 1:00.21.

Cheris Fletcher finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.03. Jolisa Evans came in third with a time of 2:24.60 and Jemarie Alcordo was fifth with a time of 2:28.27.

Parris Hodges was the top finisher in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:03.28, followed by Alcordo finishing second with a time of 5:11.19. Ronna Sandoval finished first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:39.98.

Diamond Harris and Dina Jean-Claude finished fourth and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with times of 16.66 and 19.36, respectively. Kenika Weaver finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.64.

The 4x100-meter relay team turned a time of 46.56, finishing first and the 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:48.75.

Liburd won the long jump event with a jump of 20'9", followed by May with a jump of 19'1", for second-place. Southern Miss had the top five jumpers in the triple jump, led by Aaliyah Shareef with a jump of 39'10"; May was second with a jump of 39'9", Jessica Cheeks, third with a jump of 34'0" and Jean-Claude, fifth with a jump of 32'7".

Suesanna Williams finished first in the shot with a toss of 414'6.50", and Rushae Collier was third with a throw of 37'7". Collier finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 95'5". Williams also won the hammer with a throw of 150'3". Collier was fourth with a throw of 129'10", and Hana Prudilova was fifth with a throw of 115'7". Prudilova won the javelin with a throw of 139'10", with Jean-Claude second with a throw of 116'7". Williams placed fourth with a throw of 109'6".

Rascive Grant finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.58. Cornelius continued to dominate the 400 meters, finishing first with a time of 47.03, with Cordell Kinn placing second with a time of 48.90.

Marvin Pinnock placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.98 and Vincent Tanui was third with a time of 1:58.51. Tanui finished first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:00.26.

Frederick Baldwin placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.74, while Mario King was fifth with a time of 15.47 and Hunter Adkins was sixth with a time of 17.14. Baldwin finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.77. King was fourth with a time of 1:00.34.

The 4x400-meter relay team finished first with a time of 3:14.82.

Leonard McLeggon placed third in the high jump with a jump of 6'2". Adkins was the top finisher in the pole vault with a height of 13'0". McLeggon finished third in the long jump with a jump of 20'7".

Richardo Page placed first in the shot with a throw of 50'2", while McLeggon finished sixth with a throw of 35'1.50". Page finished first in the discus with a throw of 143'0", and McLeggon was fifth with a throw of 117'11". Page finished second in the hammer with a throw of 89'10". McLeggon finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 131'0" and Page was sixth with a throw of 123'0".

Southern Miss competes in the Texas Relays, April 4-7.
