HATTIESBURG, Miss. - - Southern Miss' Raquel Washington was one of 417 athletes receiving All-America honors, as 95 schools placed athletes on the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field All-America Team, the USTFCCCA announced this week.
Washington, a native of Gulfport, Miss., recorded a time of 8.10 in the 60-meter hurdles and finished seventh in the finals at the Indoor Championship. She ran a personal and school record time of 8.08 during the preliminaries. She is a two-time Conference USA indoor champion in the 60-meter hurdles. She is the first female indoor track and field All-American at Southern Miss.
In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Indoor Championships, including relays, are awarded All-America status. In the individual (non-relay) events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
