Ashley Reyer wins her first C-USA heptathlon

El Paso, Texas - - Day two of the 2006 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship is underway at the historic Kidd Field on the campus of UTEP.
Southern Miss' Ashley Reyer won the women's heptathlon after notching the top time in the 800-meter dash with a 2:17.92 finish. In addition to the 800-meter dash, Reyer, who stood in second place following day one, took two runner-up finishes in the long jump and javelin en route to capturing her first heptathlon crown with 5,392 points. The point total is a new school record. She posted three second place finishes during the first of the heptathlon in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200-meter dash and finished third in the shot put.
Reyer becomes the second Lady Eagle to win the heptathlon. Hope Sinclair won the event in 2001 with 5,361 points, a C-USA record that stood until last season.
Houston's Rachel Easley, who led the competition going into Friday, came in second, while Franziska Lakomy of SMU wrapped up the top three positions. Lakomy won today's javelin with a toss of 133-09".
Southern Miss' Marcus Brown placed third in the hammer throw with a throw of 179'5" on Thursday, scoring six points for the men's team.
