Women's Tennis Travels to Lafayette for Ragin' Cajun Invitational
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Southern Miss women’s tennis team begins its 2017 fall season this weekend at the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The invitational will begin at 9 a.m. Friday morning and conclude on Saturday, Sept. 30. Tanit Lopez Lopez and Laura Isis De Oliviera, two newcomers to coach Dominic Modise’s squad, will play Buchta and Bozhko from Lamar in the #1 doubles draw. Claudia Castella and Anastasia Cobanovic will also play at 9 a.m. against Brett and Mastiolvic from McNeese.
Castella is the only returner from last season that will compete in the opening weekend for the Golden Eagles. Castella finished last season with a 4-3 record.
Singles action will follow doubles play Friday morning with Lopez competing in the #1 singles draw against Giovana Fioretta from McNeese. The winner of the match will play either Palmen (South Alabama) or Holtkamp (Southeastern Louisiana).
Oliviera was drawn in the #2 singles pool and will face Jelena Dordan from the University of Incarnate Word. Castella will compete in her first singles match at 10 a.m. in the 4th draw against Veer from Southeastern, while Cobanovic will face Dahlmans, from SLU.
The Golden Eagles finished last season with a 14-8 record. The team secured a five-match win streak including two wins against two C-USA opponents, Middle Tennessee (4-3) and UAB (4-0).
