Drescher and Kitchen Receive All-Conference Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women’s tennis placed two seniors on the 2016-17 Conference USA Women’s Tennis All-Conference teams as voted on by the coaches.
Carolin Drescher received second team honors for the second time in four years as a Golden Eagle. Drescher has been named to each all-conference team in her time at Southern Miss after receiving first team honors last season.
Drescher posted a 13-4 season in singles at No. 1. She finished her season winning seven of the ten matches. Drescher’s season-long win streak of four matches included a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over C-USA opponent, Middle Tennessee. Drescher also secured the fourth-most career wins in Southern Miss history with 66.
Alex Kitchen received third team honors for the third time in her Southern Miss career after a 13-7 season. Kitchen concluded her season on a two-match win streak including a win at C-USA Championships against UTSA. Kitchen finished 1-1 against C-USA opponents.
Kitchen finished her career at Southern Miss with the most career wins in school history with 79 wins and the third-most wins in a single season at 27 her junior year.
The duo finished 13- 5 at No. 1 this season and held a four-match win streak at the beginning of the season against the likes of Xavier, Louisiana, Northwestern State and Southern. The pair holds Southern Miss’s best win percentage at 67 percent in their time as a Golden Eagle and hold the second most wins in a single after 22 wins last season.
