Women's Tennis Host Senior Day, April 13

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s tennis team is set to host William Carey on Friday at 3 p.m. for Senior Day at the Southern Miss tennis courts.

Heading into Friday’s match, the Golden Eagles post a 17-5 overall record, 8-3 at home, and carry a two-match win streak before hosting the Crusaders. Prior to the match, seniors Claudia Castella and Elena Roca will be recognized for their contributions to Southern Miss.

Senior Day Success for Women's Tennis
Seniors, Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen ended their regular season careers at home for Southern Miss women’s tennis with a 6-1 win on Friday against William Carey.


Castella holds a 10-4 singles record this season and heads into her final home match with a two-match win streak along with five doubles win this season. Castella has tallied 41 singles wins in her four years with the black and gold.

Roca remains undefeated in her senior campaign and boasts a 16-0 singles record while also totaling nine doubles wins at No. 2. Roca holds the second most wins (73) in Southern Miss history behind last year’s Alex Kitchen. In her first two seasons, Roca posted back-to-back 21-win seasons.

The two seniors have 114 singles wins between the two and look to add to their record on Friday afternoon.

Friday’s match is the last regular season match of the year before the Golden Eagles travel to Norfolk, Va., for the Conference USA Tournament.
