Burdeaux, Jerse Claim Latest SAAC Weekly Honor
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss standouts Dylan Burdeaux (baseball) and Tjasa Jerse (tennis) have been voted by their peers as the latest Southern Miss SAAC Player of the Week recipients.
Burdeaux, a senior, hit safely in all four games during the week to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, tying his career-long mark. He notched at least two hits in all four games and now has a team-high of 18 multi-hit contests, while his two RBI night in the series opener against FIU gave him his team-best tying ninth multi-RBI affair. He registered hits in his final four at bats against Ole Miss and was hit by a pitch in the first two plate appearances against FIU in the opener to reach base six consecutive times. He also notched a pair of stolen bases during the week which gives him a team-best 11 on the squad. Burdeaux tallied two of his team-best 11 doubles in the middle game of the FIU series. Burdeaux also drove in at least one run in all four games to increase his RBI lead on the club to 35.
The No. 16 Golden Eagles host Ole Miss Tuesday at 7 p.m. before playing at Rice over the weekend.
Jerse, a sophomore, secured an unbeaten weekend against two C-USA opponents in UAB and Middle Tennessee. The sophomore’s matches this weekend clinched both road matches for the Golden Eagles. Jerse won her second match in three sets, only the third time this season Jerse was forced to three sets. After a 2-0 weekend, Jerse improves to 17-2 this season and is on a four-match win streak.
Her and her squad conclude the regular season Friday at 2:30 p.m. for Senior Day against William Carey.
